The SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Discovery Kit includes a series of discovery labs that go beyond learning about a particular component of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to understanding how to build a divisional portal site solution, how to deploy Web applications that integrate tightly with the portal site environment, how to use SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services to track and analyze portal site usage, and lastly, how to customize the portal site user interface.

There are 6 labs in the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Discovery Kit. The lab manuals includes a description of the business scenario that is addressed by the lab, the teaching objectives of the lab, step-by-step instructions, dependencies for each lab and the expected amount of time needed for the lab assuming a basic familiarity with Windows SharePoint Services and limited SharePoint Portal Server 2003 experience.

My third attempt in writing an article. Hopefully, there are improvements ;)

Anyway, learn how to change the default document template that your document library uses. At the end of the article, I've left a question there. Do discuss with me how you would solve the problem. Don't worry, I won't steal your idea and write another article. Read about it here.

This is just for my easy finding. Many people has been asking about roll-up webparts. I find cseg rollup webpart very flexible.

Those who customise sharepoint will know that templates are stored in c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web service extension\60\templates\1033. If you install wss alone, its quite simple to identify what template the directory storing. But if you install sharepoint portal server, you might make some wrong guess. So I shall list them here, partially for my own reference.

For wss, there are only two site definitions.
STS is for team sites and document workspace
MPS is for meeting workspaces

For sps,
SPS is for SharePoint Portal Server Site
SPSBWEB is for SharePoint Portal Server BucketWeb Template
SPSCOMMU is for Community Area Template
SPSMSITE is for News Area Template
SPSNEWS is for News Home Area Template
SPSPERS is for SharePoint Portal Server Personal Space
SPSSITES is for Site Directory Area Template
SPSTOC is for Contents Area Template
SPSTOPIC is for Topic Area Template

I've attended a webcast on IBF today. Its te first of four parts series. Well, I'm working overtime in office, so I couldn't give full attention. Asked the presenter (so sorry, forgot your name) whether it makes any sense to learn IBF when I'm dealing with SharePoint. He said its a perfect fit!. So here are the resources for me to find out more...

Borrowed a tripod from my friend. Too bad his tripod is not stable enough, and the strong wind causes my camera to sway. Picture isn't nice, mostly due to the photographer's skills, and the fireworks aient' fantastic.

Take a look here.

Oh man, after typing so much for my previous post, here is a link that list what I have done, plus a little thumbnail to show you how it looks like...

Anyway, each downloads contains two templates.

  • Basic one contains the lists and libraries that make up the templates, in plain sharepoint site.
  • Custom one contains the lists and libraries that make up the templates, and customises sharepoint in such a way that you almost can't recognise its a sharepoint site.

Microsoft download center has a lot of new Windows SharePoint Services templates for download. I'll post them here first, for those interested, and will comment on them once I find some time to try them out.

Wow! That's a lot of templates!
