This is a very "pull-hair" problem, and once you find the cause, the cause is totally unrelated to any network issue!
Having received my new laptop, I want to move my Mobile Domain Controller to my laptop, so that if I do not have vpn access back, I still have my domain controller with me for demo purposes. Love SCVMM with HyperV, as one of my host at home can serve as a virtual machine library with all the different configuration syspreped, and software library to mount onto various virtual machine. Even on the second host, mounting the software, moving the virtual machine, and creating another in a new directory is a snap of the finger. Hence I used SCVMM to install the agent on the new laptop.
Installing is successful and the icon turns black, which means the agent is in. However, status shows that connection status is not responding, virtualization service status is unknown. System information on the summary page is blank. Firewall disabled, tried removing and reinstalling, rebooting, without any success. Add a dummy virtual machine using HyperV console, and it appears on the scvmm console. But when I want to migrate, I cannot choose the new laptop. Do a google, found someone with the same problem, and removed the USB thumbdrive that contains all the laptop driver, do a refresh on scvmm, and everything returns to normal.
These are the times when I wish I have access to a MSFT neck... :p
Do a google on "Now Is The Time To Determine SharePoint’s Place In Your Application Development Strategy", you will find two links on top of the search results to buy the papers, and followed by many reports that says BEWARE, WARNING, followed by the word CHAOS... Friends who have access to the report told me that the short comings are only two pages out of the twenty two... Isn't this an overkill?
Seems to me that competition is really scared about what SharePoint can do. Seems to me like SharePoint is saying BEWARE, WARNING, I'M HERE! instead of the other way round...
